Tunas Mekar has performed by special invitation both internationally and nationally, and performs regularly at music festivals, schools, private events and specially produced concerts throughout the Rocky Mountain region.

Based in Denver, Colorado, USA, Gamelan Tunas Mekar is a community orchestra under the direction of Balinese composer and Artist-in-Residence I Made Lasmawan. Tunas Mekar performs the indigenous music of the island of Bali, Indonesia. Modeled after typical village groups found throughout Bali, and learning by traditional methods, Tunas Mekar provides American audiences with an authentic glimpse of one of the world's most fascinating cultures.

Tunas Mekar is very excited to join with musicians, dancers and ethnomusicologists from around the country in celebration of 20 years of gamelan at Colorado College. Guest Indonesian artists and presenters include I Ketut Gede Asnawa, I Putu Tangkas Adi Hiranmayena, I Gusti Ngurah Kertayuda, I Made Lasmawan, Ni Ketut Marni, Kompiang Metri-Davies, I Nyoman Saptanyana, I Nyoman Suadin, Ni Putu Suartini, I Wayan Susila, I Nyoman Wenten and Siti Nartani Wenten. Guest American artists and presenters include Lisa Gold, David Harnish, Victoria Lindsay Levine, Elizabeth McLean Macy and Stephen Scott.

Don't miss a spectacular evening of Balinese music and dance with Tunas Mekar and Gamelan Manik Kusuma (the MSU gamelan ensemble)! The program includes instrumental and dance pieces including the lovely Gabor and the incredibly dynamic Teruna Jaya, and Tirta Bhuana composed by I Made Lasmawan. With guest dancers Ni Ketut Marni and others.
