FREE Performance (7:30pm) and Lecture/Demonstration (12:15pm)

Join Tunas Mekar, under the direction of I Made Lasmawan, for an evening celebrating the exquisite culture of Bali. This free event is presented by the Regis Guest Artist Series, Regis University.

A highlight of the evening performance will be an excerpt from the Ramayana Shadow Play, featuring the beautiful Balinese shadow puppets of Bali and music of the gender wayang performed by the quartet Catur Eka Santi.

Also on the program are new and traditional dance pieces including the spectacular contemporary dance piece Merak Angelo (Strutting Peacock) with guest Balinese dancer Ni Ketut Marni, and Puspanjali, a traditional welcome dance featuring guest youth dancers Krystal Maharani Ellison and Indira Sandika.

Tunas Mekar will also premiere their newly recovered angklung "shakers"--new sounds and textures woven into a favorite composition by I Made Lasmawan! A reception with the artists will follow.

Afternoon Lecture/Demonstration: The Balinese performing arts occupy a central place in the life of every village, and inspire artists and students of culture around the world.
